Overview
The VERHUS Project (Vaccine Equity Response in Humanitarian Settings) is an important initiative led by the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services – Immunisation Program (CBCHS -IP). Directly funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, this project focuses on strengthening immunization efforts in the Northwest (NW) and Southwest (SW) regions of Cameroon, particularly in communities that have been inadvertently missed by routine government immunization programs.
The VERHUS Project builds upon the success of the Raise for Sahel (R4S) project, continuing the commitment to ensure that no child is left behind in receiving life-saving vaccines.

Purpose
The VERHUS Project is designed to address gaps in immunization coverage, particularly in areas affected by humanitarian crises, conflict, and geographical barriers. By focusing on underserved and vulnerable populations, the project ensures that every child receives essential vaccines, improving public health and working toward the elimination of preventable diseases.
Duration
The VERHUS Project will run for 12 months, beginning on February 17, 2025, and concluding in February 2026. Throughout this period, the project will focus on targeted interventions, community engagement, and continuous monitoring to achieve its objectives and create sustainable, lasting impacts on immunization coverage.
Key Objectives
To achieve its goals, the VERHUS Project is committed to the following objectives:
- Identify specific immunisation barriers, gaps, humanitarian needs, gender dynamics, and community systems to be engaged at the Health Area level in four selected HDs
- Co-design context-specific and adaptive interventions to address identified barriers and gaps to reach and fully immunize ZDC and UIC in missed communities in four selected HDs
- Establish a robust MEL system to ensure timely, fit-for-purpose information is available for decision-making and learning in four selected HDs
- Actively engage with community systems, the NIP, and humanitarian stakeholders to build ownership and sustainability in four selected HDs
Partnership & Funding
The VERHUS Project is directly funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, ensuring robust financial support for its implementation. The project is also supported by various local stakeholders, including district health teams, community leaders, and organizations, ensuring a collaborative approach for maximum impact.
Conclusion
The VERHUS Project represents a vital step toward ensuring equitable access to immunization services for all children, regardless of their location. With the support of Gavi and the dedication of local health teams and communities, the project will make a lasting difference in the health and well-being of children across the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon.
Together, we can create a healthier, more immunized future for the next generation. Join us!
